inherQuests was founded by Dina Shoman, the eldest of three kids born to one of the Arab world’s most prominent banking families. Despite her heritage, the early money lessons she received as a young girl used to bore her tears.
If you had told her that one day she’d be on the cover of Forbes Middle East thanks to her successful banking career, 8-year-old Dina would have never believed you –she thought she would be a detective, solving mysteries just like Nancy Drew. And, now, she’s combining banking skills with a love of mystery to create financial education Quests that girls will love!
So what led Dina to create financial literacy products for kids?
When Dina was young, teaching methods in school centered around boring memorization. But, her transfer to a local American middle school exposed her to different teaching approaches using creative thinking, problem solving, and experiential learning – and that opened her eyes to a new way of learning even the most boring of subjects.
Almost two decades later, with a finance degree and an MBA under her belt, Dina became the youngest and only female Executive Vice President in the history of Arab Bank, acting as a board member of multiple banks and nonprofit organizations.
Much to her parent’s pleasure and surprise, it seemed that she had finally embraced and started appreciating the financial values her family raised her with ever since she was a little girl.
When the time came for her banking journey to end, Dina planned the next chapter of her life. She knew that growing up with a solid financial footing had been a key element of her own successes and strongly believed that providing an early financial education to girls would help them to grow up with the knowledge, skills, and capabilities that would allow them to follow their dreams.
Working closely with educational and child development experts, and after conducting a nationwide parents’ survey and spending hundreds of hours interviewing parents of young girls and testing the boxes with their daughters, inherQuests’ Financial Fun Boxes were finally brought to life.
Always a QuestGirl, Dina enjoys hanging out with her family and her Maltese pup, Everest, working out, cooking, and planning her next travel adventures. As part of her overall commitment to financial literacy, education, and entrepreneurship, Dina also makes time to volunteer with the Startup Leadership Program, Junior Achievement New York, the International Youth Foundation, and the Global Teacher Prize Award.
